How do we know we are in Poland? What constitutes our subjective evaluation of the place we live in? What images can be used to describe the uniqueness of a specific country? Can modern Poland be portrayed in photography avoiding accusations of banality, exaggerated spite or sweetness, and at the same time retaining subjectivity?
Recently we have witnessed the spring-up of new and very interesting documentary projects which subjectively depict the world we live in and were created by a generation of photographers working after 1989. These are consciously realized series of pictures whose authors decided to present their vision of the world outside our window, the place they live – Poland of today.
The editorial team of "Pozytyw" monthly and Yours Gallery decided to collect the currently made documentary series at one exhibition called "Now Poland". Both well-known and debuting photographers were invited to take part in the event. The works of the following artists were presented: Grzegorz Dąbrowski, Kuba Dąbrowski, Mariusz Forecki, Magdalena Krajewska, artistic duo of Andrzej Kramarz and Weronika Łodzińska, Adam Lach, Roman Luszczki, Rafał Milach, Igor Omulecki, Przemysław Pokrycki, Radek Polak, Jacek Poręba, Konrad Pustota, Agnieszka Reiss, Konrad Pustota, Agnieszka Reiss, Szymon Rogiński, Aneta Solak and Marta Zasępa, Marek Szczepański, Wanda Szumowska, Zbigniew Tomaszczuk, Łukasz Trzciński, Wojtek Wieteska, Wojciech Wilczyk, Krzysztof Zieliński, Ireneusz Zjeżdżała and Andrzej Zygmuntowicz.
