OLD BREWERY NEW DANCE IS 15 YEARS OLD!
In 2004, the Art Stations Foundation by Grażyna Kulczyk established in Poznań’s Stary Browar the first Polish venue dedicated entirely to contemporary choreography. Known internationally as Stary Browar Nowy Taniec, the programme’s mission has always been to popularise, promote and present to the Polish audience the latest trends in contemporary choreography, whilst its main goal, following the motto ART DOESN’T NEED SUPPORT, ARTISTS DO! is to intensively support the development of Polish artists.
During the 15 years of our existence, we have built a multilevel programme featuring residency and production projects, including the flagship ones: Solo Projekt and Alternative Dance Academy. Subsequently, a whole generation of talented artists has appeared on the Polish dance scene who, day by day, are dynamically and effectively changing the face of Polish choreography.
Based in Studio Słodownia +3, Stary Browar Nowy Taniec is the first and so far, the only Polish choreography development centre which works all year round. It is a platform for artistic growth and exchanging experience, a space for creating original dance productions, for discussion and choreographic (self)reflection. For this exact reason: to advance and enrich the discourse on the art of dancemaking, since 2015 the Foundation is also granting the Grażyna Kulczyk Research Scholarships with the fundamental aim of supporting research on and spreading knowledge about contemporary choreography. Moreover, since 2011 the Foundation has been running Roztańczone Rodziny (Dancing Families), the first programme in Poland dedicated to children and families. This is a year-round series of workshops, presentations and productions for the youngest audience.
As an important part of its activities, the Art Stations Foundation is strongly involved in promoting Polish dance abroad and establishing educational collaborations on an international level. Between 2008 and 2012, the Foundation co-organised (with CK Zamek) three editions of the Polish Dance Platform, and since 2008, has been the main Polish partner of the Aerowaves network and the founding member of the European Dancehouse Network (EDN). The Foundation is also the Polish partner of Global Practice Sharing (GPS), a programme coordinated by the renowned Movement Research of New York.
In 2019, the year of our 15th anniversary, we would like to invite you to numerous events, including the final editions of Alternative Dance Academy, Solo Projekt, workshops and performances for children, next to our annual participation in the Malta Festival Poznań, as well as a great variety of special events.
As always, we will dance with you and for you, and we are looking forward to celebrating the 15th anniversary of Stary Browar Nowy Taniec together.
